Florida Technicians Deploy to Louisiana to Restore Connectivity After Devastating Winter Storms
Sixteen Comcast Florida technicians stepped up recently, traveling to Monroe, Louisiana to support restoration efforts after destructive snowstorms. The North Florida team has been on the ground since January 29, helping rebuild critical connectivity for customers impacted by the extreme weather.
Among them is Steven Bickham, a Senior Residential Technician based out of Jacksonville, who has worked at Comcast for more than 10 years. Bickham said the extent of the damage is unimaginable.
“When we got here, it was a lot worse than any of us expected. We saw homes burned down, roofs collapsed, and families living in RVs in their front yards while they rebuild their homes. I didn’t realize snow could cause this kind of damage.”
Despite the destruction, Bickham said the support from local teams and the community has made a big impact.
“Monroe residents have been incredibly grateful that we’re here. People know we came to help, and they’ve been so open and appreciative,” Bickham said. “We’re getting lines reconnected from the poles to the homes. A lot of areas still don’t have power, but we’re working ahead so that when the lights come back on, everything’s ready for customers.”
The team is working to restore telecommunication lines so customers can come back online as soon as power is restored.

When Bickham’s supervisor reached out to see if he would be interested in helping in Louisiana, his answer was simple: “I’d love to.”
Steve Lawton, Sr. Director of Installation & Service, oversees the technicians that made the trip. He is thankful for those who raised their hands and traveled to help another region during a tough time.
“As always, I appreciate the team members that travel and take the time to step up. They’re truly looking beyond themselves and helping other areas,” Lawton said. “I thank them for everything that they’re doing. I’m very happy that they represent north Florida and Comcast Florida the way they do.”

Donovin Brown, Vice President of Construction & Engineering for Comcast’s Big South Region also expressed gratitude.
“I want to personally thank our Florida teammates for stepping up and supporting our region during the recent impact from winter storms” Brown said. “Your willingness to leave home, jump in without hesitation, brave the cold weather, work around the clock, and care for our customers and communities means more than you know.”
Thanks to the dedication of Bickham and the entire Florida team, customers in Monroe are one step closer to being fully reconnected after the storm. The technicians plan to remain in the area until restoration is complete.
